Environmental Policy Statement
Last updated : 01/01/2022
By the Wye recognises that virtually all activities in the tourism industry have some impact on the environment. We believe that our performance as a Glamping Site, operating at Hay-on-Wye will be measured not only by our profitability as a business but also by our impact on the shared environment. We are committed to continuing to improve our environmental performance, minimising our environmental impact and making resource efficiency a core requirement of all our operations. By the Wye will strive to continually improve environmental performance and prevent pollution of land, air and water by eliminating the use of chemicals and by reusing packaging, composting and recycling, setting quantifiable objectives and targets to be reviewed annually.
By the Wye has an ongoing commitment to comply with applicable legal requirements and with other requirements to which the organisation subscribes, and will develop a compliance register in a designated environmental file as well as complete periodic compliance audits.
We will seek to promote good practice by ourselves and others.
Energy
By the Wye will monitor and manage its consumption and use of energy. We will work to reduce the consumption of energy and to reduce our contribution to emissions of gases and other pollutants which are believed to contribute to climate change.
Water
We will work to reduce the consumption of water within our site and reduce discharges.
Waste
By the Wye will work to reduce the volume of waste within the site wherever possible, by: reducing consumption, repairing, re-using and recycling all materials used within the site both in daily operations and in construction and other projects.
Procurement
By the Wye will use local suppliers where appropriate and will encourage its suppliers to commit to improving environmental performance. We will seek to undertake sustainable procurement actions that comply with EC regulatory requirements and UK Government policy and its requirement to provide best value.
Biodiversity
By the Wye will seek to enhance the biodiversity value of the site going forward, and will practice not preach its sustainable values across the board.
Our Staff
We recognise the responsibility staff have in contributing to good environmental management. By the Wye will seek to harness and channel the enthusiasm and interest shown by staff and will provide appropriate information and support to ensure that all staff exercise their environmental responsibility, and pass this on to others.
Our Visitors
By the Wye will encourage our visitors to cherish our environment so that it can be appreciated by future generations. We will seek to raise awareness amongst our visitors of the impact that tourism can have and what they can do to reduce their impact.
Our Business Partners
By the Wye will promote environmental good practice to its business partners, encouraging a shared responsibility to protecting the environment that brings so many of our visitors.
By the Wye will incorporate the principles set out in this environmental policy into its day to day operations developing appropriate: procedures for day-to-day operations, annual targets and action plans.
