Each of us views Glamping trips differently. Some want to just stay onsite, chill out by the fire and unplug from the outside world, while others may view Glamping as a way to be active and busy in nature. There is no right or wrong way to glamp! The thing I love about Glamping is that it gets me away from my never-ending washing pile and to-do list. It allows me to relax and spend some quality time with my family. One of the best parts of Glamping with family? Playing games! With days and nights open to explore and do what one wants, what better option than to play some fun games and activities together. Here are a few suggestions of games to play with your family while glamping at By the Wye.
Spot it! – A fun scavenger type game sure to bring on the giggles. Packs of nature cards bursting with images so it’s easy for all ages to play along. Give them a card and a bag and set them loose in the woods to explore. See who can find the items on the card first. This game is equally fun for kids and adults! Cards available to borrow from The Hide.
Catch – Yes, a good old-fashioned game of catch. Grab a ball and work on those throwing skills. With oodles of free space in the wood, utilize that space teaching your kids to catch, kick or throw.
Fire Tender – A game of quiet skill, one child sits blindfolded with lots of sticks around them. The rest of the children, one or two at a time, attempt to creep up and steal a stick from him and return safely. If the blindfolded child hears a noise, he points in that direction. Split into teams to add an element of competition.
I Spy – For a relaxing time around the campsite, keep kids busy with the classic I Spy game. Each player gives clues on the item they choose within eyesight, saying, for example, “I spy with my little eyes, something brown.” The one who guesses what it is wins.
Telling Stories – Family Glamping games that work for any age and don’t require any pre-planning are excellent ideas to keep in mind for your next Glamping holiday. Kids, teenagers, parents, grandparents—truly anyone—can get in on the fun with this one. Hanging out in the evening, suggest that everyone tell a story; it can be scary, funny, true, made up, whatever works. There is a Storytelling corner in the woods with a box of short stories to suit every age, feel free to borrow or even add some of your own.
Cloud Watching – This final suggestion is our most calm and laid-back game, which might be perfect for kids or even adults or teenagers looking to relax after a busy morning of foraging or den building. Spread out a blanket in a shady spot (so you don’t have to squint so much!) but can still see up into the sky. Then you can play the alphabet game, looking for clouds shaped like something that starts with each letter or you can play “I Spy” on what the clouds look like or even just talk about what you see.
